RTP expands long-fiber thermoplastic line

WINONA, MN, Dec. 19 -- Custom compounder RTP Co., based here, is now offering long-fiber-reinforced thermoplastics (LFRTs) with fiber loadings above 30% by volume. RTP has manufactured and sold LFRT products below 30% by volume fiber content up until now. According to Bob Wick, RTP's product manager for structural materials, RTP has manufactured LFRT compounds since the 1980s and a recently expired patent now allows the company to offer a complete line of long fiber products. "The expired patent had only affected a minor portion of our long fiber business, but had a negative effect on the marketplace in general," said Wick.
