Ball to move Georgia plastics office, R&D unit to Colorado

BROOMFIELD, CO, Dec. 9 -- Ball Corp., a major PET container manufacturer, will relocate the main office and research and development operations of its plastic business from Smyrna, GA, to the Denver area, where the company's packaging office and corporate headquarters are located. It is expected that the relocation will be in stages and will be completed near the end of 2004. The consolidation will enable Ball to optimize its administrative resources in Colorado, curtail travel, and reduce costs. Most of the 54 employees in Smyrna will be given the option to relocate to Colorado. It is anticipated that relocation and other costs will result in a charge in the fourth quarter of 2002 of approximately $1.6 million ($1 million after tax)....
