An airbag is considered as one of the most important parts of a vehicle's occupant restraint system. In combination with seat belts and other positioned safety systems, the airbag must respond to a vehicle crash within milliseconds.
Air bubble films are commonly used to protect objects from damage by mechanical forces. A drawback of regular bubble film, is the fact that the air pressure in the bubble decreases as a function of time, because of poor barrier properties of the polyethylene used. A solution is the application of Akulon® PA6, e.g. Akulon® F132-E, as barrier material in a coextruded multi layer film.
When compared to metals, Akulon® PA6 offers the possibility of lower system costs through part and function integration, easier assembly and longer tool life for air inlet manifolds. Akulon® PA6 offers a higher burst pressure resistance and gives more economical solutions than PA66.
