Bags carrying electronic parts need to prevent ESD as uncontrolled discharge could lead to damage of electronics devices, increasing costs over time.
A soft discharging solution is needed that is more or less fool-proof and works independently from conditions of use.

Present solutions such as Carbon black are highly conductive and therefore lead to hard discharge accompanied by damage of the packaged electronics good.
Another disadvantage of Carbon Black is that coloration is not possible, meaning bags cannot be differentiated between and visible content control is impossible. In large production plants this can be a major problem as it slows down recognition of the parts contained in the bags.
Migratory systems, incorporated into the plastic material and topical treatment like spray coatings suffer from the tendency to slough and bleed off which causes pollution or corrosion of adjacent parts.
Although very inexpensive both solutions are non-permanent and highly dependent from humidity. The missing reliability and therewith high potential to put ESD-protection of parts at risk cannot be balanced by low pricing.
Ciba IRGASTAT® P18, P22 are the ideal solutions for converters of bags requiring ESD.
