Maintaining the expected agricultural films' lifetime is challenging |
With the extensive use of pesticides, (i.e.: burned sulphur, sulphur and chlorine-based chemicals) agricultural films (Ag-films) are subjected to chemically harsh
environmental conditions where they are likely to degrade. Photo and
thermal oxidation of Ag-film can cause a dramatic loss of physical,
mechanical, and optical properties in a short
period. Common light stabilizers used to address this issue generally
interact with agrochemical additives, and cannot avoid the reduction of useful life
of the Ag-films.

Ciba's NOR™ technology is a solution
to extend films' expected lifetime even in harsh agrochemicals environment
|
Premature failure of agricultural plastics could result in significant losses in money and time for agricultural plastics producers. TINUVIN® NOR™ 371 makes your
agricultural plastics last longer and perform better, even in the presence
of harsh agrochemicals (i.e.: burned sulphur, sulphur and chlorine-based chemicals). The innovative NOR™ technology protects greenhouse covers from UV light damage and maintains the optimum light for crops.

An already demonstrated success:

Test results: UV Light Stability - With Pesticide Treatments, Metham-Sodium (Sulphur-based chemical) and Permethrin (Chlorine-based chemical), in experimental greenhouses
Fig. 1: Residual elongation at break measurement for LDPE films: evaluation of the greenhouse support material (pine wood and galvanized iron) on the films' lifetime (window means no direct contact with a support).
|
As the data above clearly demonstrate, in Galvanized iron, with Metham-Sodium
(Sulphur) and Permethrin (Chlorine) treatment, the combination of UVA (Benzotriazol) with TINUVIN® NOR™ 371 keeps 50% of elongation up to 460 kLys whereas competitive
methylated HALS + triazine (HALS-2) demonstrated lower chemical resistance (failed
at about 250 kLy) and Nickel Quencher failed at 200 Kly.

TINUVIN® NOR™ 371 is the ideal solution if you
need to reach:
Longer protection against light, even in conditions of high solar radiation
Longer protection against heat, which is particularly critical on greenhouse supports
High resistance to agrochemicals (i.e.: burned sulphur, sulphur and chlorine-based chemicals)
Optimum light for crops, avoiding photosynthetic active radiation loss
Cost reduction (less agricultural plastics replacement)
