Water solubility has been an issue with conventional APP FR |
In some applications that can be in direct contact with water (domestic or heating appliances, garden furniture, pipes, station seats), choosing the optimum flame retardant additive is critical. Indeed commonly used APP based flame retardants are partially soluble in water, which leads to a decreased protection overtime.
|
Coated intumescent systems are durable under humid conditions |
Thanks to its very low solubility in water, Budit® 3168 is the ideal choice if you need to resist against washing out effects or to flame retard products in outdoor applications.

In addition to its very low solubility in water, Budit® 3168 is colorless, non-toxic and halogen free. Moreover, this Flame Retardant allows:
To pass UL94 V0 (1,6 mm) and Glow Wire Ignition Test at 750°C
To reach a better durability under humid conditions
Even after 168h storage at 70°C in water (leaching test), Budit® 3168's flame retardant effect is not influenced, which guarantees a very good protection, even under very humid conditions.
