Flow and Extra Flow PC/ABS blends

PC/ABS blends exhibit an intermediate flow between PC and ABS, in addition to this, they are easier to process than Polycarbonate.

Reducing wall thickness has been a target of economic and functional design for many years. This reduction in wall thickness is prompted by the savings that can be made on material and production costs, together with the reduction in component size. The electrical/electronics industry, in particular, constantly requires ever-smaller components. A large number of applications for thin-walled parts already exist in many industries and the material used requires an excellent balance between flow and mechanical properties.

Moreover, PC/ABS blends are noted for their ideal combination of toughness, rigidity and flowability. Their heat resistance to Vicat VST/B 120 is between 112 and 142°C.

Bayblend® Extra-Flow generation exhibit a good balance of improved melt flow vs. comparable existing Bayblend® T grades and excellent mechanical performance, particularly for interior automotive safety applications:
  • 10-15% reduction of melt viscosity vs. Bayblend® T grades of comparable HDT
  • Excellent multi-axial low-temperature ductility to withstand airbag impact
  • Parts with excellent environmental stress cracking resistance
  • Compliance with major European automotive OEMs' interior low-emissions standards (T65 XF and T85 XF)
  • Excellent processing stability allows broad processing window
  • Superior reproduction of microscopic tool textures for low-gloss surfaces /designed for non-painted applications
  • Superior aging performance, in particular when exposed to humid heat
