Lower moisture absorbtion and easy processing result in cost savings
Discover polyetherimide foams for your demanding high heat applications
Your Need...
|
For your high performance applications requiring high stiffness, lightweight &
low flame smoke toxicity rigid core materials, discover an innovative solution with
Ultem® foams. Not only does PEI foam meet these requirements, but it also provides
added benefits of low moisture absorbtion and easier processing ability, both of
which could lead you to cost savings.
|
The Solution...
- High Performance:
- Lower moisture absorbtion than PES or PMI
- High temperature resistance
- Good stiffness/density balance
- Radar transparent
- Easier Process:
- Compatible with wide range of laminates
- Consistency of the board
- Manufacturing cost savings
- Compatible with a wide range of processes
- Aligned to Regulations:
- Foam Benefits:
- Light Weighting
- Good acoustic and thermal Insulation
|
The combination of all benefits listed above makes Ultem® foam, based on polyetherimide
(PEI) resin, an ideal core material for composite structures. On top of that, it
also features low moisture absorption in comparison to benchmark solutions
(PES or PMI foams), which delivers longer life performance as well as the
ability to eliminate edge filling in some applications (see Figure 1).
In addition to offering good acoustic, dielectric and thermal properties, Ultem®
foams have demonstrated noise reduction coefficients of more than 0.3 as illustrated
in Figure 2.

Ultem® foam is compatible with metals and thermoset laminate materials. Hence,
adhesives and other secondary operations that are common to the aircraft industry
can be reduced or even eliminated, offering overall cost reduction of the production
process.
