SBC compatibilizer for Styrenics and Polyolefins
When formulating or recycling materials containing both Styrenics and Polyolefins compatibility between these two materials is essential, as it is well known that incompatibility always leads to poor mechanical performance as well as inconsistent appearance and processing. |
 |
Thanks to its specific chemical structure, Styroflex® - a unique BASF styrene-butadiene block copolymer- acts as a very efficient compatibilizer between Styrenics and Polyolefins. Easy to handle and to disperse, Styroflex® can be incorporated during the processing without pre-compounding, allowing greater flexibility in performance adjustments or recycling.
Below are two examples of running applications where Styroflex® is bringing substantial added value. However, use your creativity to explore new opportunities offered by this new compatibilizer |

| Styroflex® to produce high quality PP and PS blends |
|
Styroflex® acts as styrenics and polyolefins blends compatibilizer:
- PS and PE
- PS and ABS
- ABS, PS, PP, PE
Styroflex® gives flexibility to produce blends. Equivalent performances obtained with non tailor made solutions are reached with an unmatched price. Impact strength and flowability are increased to name but two.
The new blend allows for a unique set of performances for original applications, as demonstrated by the example below: |
Microwable cups |
 |
- Better impact strength
- Improved ESCR performance
- Good adhesion to both XPS and PP
- Good formability
- Low gel formation and therefore good processability
- Good surface appearance

| Styroflex® to boost recycling |
|
Regrind or purge material can be recycled with higher value. When it comes to environment preservation, a hot topic is waste. Stryroflex® brings a solution to ABS, PS, PP and PE scraps recycling.
Even when mixing the four of them, the addition of Styroflex® guaranties no break on the final product. |
